On a momentous Sunday morning, the Riyadh Metro officially opened its doors to the public, marking a transformative milestone in the Saudi capital’s public transportation landscape.
This state-of-the-art metro system is not only the largest in the Middle East but also boasts the title of the longest driverless train network in the world.
The eagerly anticipated launch began with three operational lines: the Blue Line (Line 1), the Yellow Line (Line 4), and the Purple Line (Line 6).
Together, they offer Riyadh residents and visitors a seamless, efficient, and futuristic commuting experience.
Operational Lines and Routes
- Blue Line (Line 1): Spanning from Olaya Street to Batha, this line connects key areas in Riyadh’s bustling city center.
- Yellow Line (Line 4): Running along the King Khalid International Airport Road, this line caters to travelers and commuters heading to and from the airport.
- Purple Line (Line 6): Linking Abdul Rahman bin Awf Road with Al-Shaikh Hassan bin Hussain Road, this line serves the growing residential and business hubs in the area.What’s Next?
What’s Next?
The metro’s phased rollout continues with the launch of two additional lines on December 15, 2024:
- Red Line (Line 2): Covering the vibrant King Abdullah Road.
- Green Line (Line 5): Following King Abdulaziz Road.
Finally, the full network will be completed on January 5, 2025, with the activation of the Orange Line (Line 3), which spans Madinah Road.
